Weather you are an experienced Reverse Triathlon athlete, a wheelchair racer, a walker, a child, someone who likes to look at military aircraft, or just somebody who likes a $5.00 pancake breakfast for a good cause, there will be something for you at the 29th Annual Race on the Base. The big day in Los Alamitos is February 27, 2010, just a week from Saturday. The race will be held at the Joint Forces Training Base, JFTB, in Los Alamitos.
According to Angie Avery, Director of Recreation & Community Services, City of Los Alamitos, “It’s a great active fun morning for the whole family.” Avery told www.OC180NEWS.com approximately 6,000 people took part in the event last year.
The event includes a 5K and 10K Run, 5K Walk, 10K In-Line Skate/Wheelchair, 1K Mission: Kids Run, and the Reverse Triathlon which consists of a 5K Run, 12 Mile Bike ride, and 200 Meter Swim. The event also features an exceptional vendor area, $5 All You Can Eat Pancake Breakfast, military aircraft displays, musical entertainment, and free Family Fun Zone.
Avery said “All of the events are actually on the runways. How often do you get to run or bike on a runway on a military base?” The event is sponsored by The City of Los Alamitos, the California National Guard, and the Cancer Support Foundation.
Registration will be accepted by mail, fax, or walk-in until 4:00pm on February 19. Online registration will continue until 8:00am on Feb. 24 at the link below. Registration will also be open during packet pick up on Friday, February 26 from 3:00-7:00pm, and on the day of the race beginning at 6:00am at the Joint Forces Training Base, Hangar #2. Included in your registration is a short-sleeved technical race shirt.
Avery indicated adult Registration fees range from $38 for the 5K, to $125 for a team Reverse Triathlon entry. Proceeds from this event will benefit the USA Water Polo National training Center located on the JFTB. Proceeds from the 5K Walk will benefit the Cancer Support Foundation.
