There are two major events happening in West Orange County this week end. The Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce will host their 22nd Annual Classic Car Show. The Rossmoor Community Services District and the Rossmoor Homeowners Association will present their Family Fun Days at Rush Park.
The car show in Seal Beach is on Main Street in Old Town and will feature about 500 classic and exotic cars. Cars on exhibition include race cars, fuel altered dragsters, racing boats, and National Hot Rod Association dragsters.
The official hours are 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday. The streets will be closed between 5:00 am and 3:00 pm. Main Street will be closed all the way from PCH to Ocean.
The Lions Club will have their pancake breakfast starting at 7:30 am at the pier. There will be live music by six bands on three stages and the car show trophies will be awarded starting at 2:30 pm. Award categories include Best Corvette, Best Camaro, Best Mustang, Best American Sports Car, Best Muscle Car, and Best Woodie.
Parking and traffic will be challenging, to say the least. With as many as 25,000 people expected and several streets off limits, the best approach is to walk or take the bus. According to SBPD Sergeant Ransdell, parking will be "Catch as catch can." The normal number of Saturday visitors during nice weather is around 3,500-4,000. There are no special shuttles or off site parking. In previous years, free shuttles were offered from parking on the Boeing lot and at the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station. Ransdell said that because of increased 2001 security concerns and a lack of sponsors for shuttles, those options are no longer available.
The Rossmoor Family Fun Days run from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm on Saturday and 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Sunday. There will be all the trappings of an old fashioned carnival, including rides, live music, pony rides, food, and booths. The carnival rides are $2.00 each, but you can purchase a ride-all you-want ticket for $20.00, and the proceeds will benefit the Los Alamitos Schools.
On Saturday at 2:30 pm there will be the Little Miss Rossmoor Contest, and the Sheriff’s Department helicopter is supposed to drop by. There will be live music from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
On Sunday there will be a car show from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and a dog parade at 2:00 pm. Live music will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
