The armed robbery spree began at about 10:30 PM with the holdup of a Long Beach convenience store, February 2, in the 200 Block of Orange Avenue. By the time it ended, four businesses had been attacked and the suspect was arrested for a similar robbery in Huntington Beach.

Before moving to Huntington Beach, the suspect hit three stores in Long Beach. Within about 30 minutes of the Orange Ave convenience store hit, he moved to a food establishment on Broadway.

At this point, it seems he had enough for one night. The next attack was at 9:30 AM the next morning. He hit another food establishment in the 400 Block of Obispo Avenue. After this, he moved to Huntington Beach.

At about 9:00 PM, February 3, a food establishment in the 18000 Block of Main Street was held up. But, this time, a witness saw the get away car. The Huntington Beach Police had a vehicle description and partial license number to work with. That was what they needed.

The police departments from Huntington Beach and Long Beach worked together to identify and arrest two suspects last week. The suspects in the Huntington Beach robbery have been identified as Long Beach residents Tad Lauren Bennett, 27, and 26-year-old Anthony Lee Bearden. The two were arraigned on Friday, February 10, 2012, and the Orange County District Attorney filed two counts of robbery on each suspect.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, LBPD detectives are continuing their investigation into the robberies in Long Beach, and the case against Suspect Bearden is expected to be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office today.

LBPD earlier reported that in each of the Long Beach incidents the suspect entered the businesses and demanded cash, while showing a handgun. Once he got the cash, he exited the businesses and fled on a bicycle. No one was injured in the crimes.
Long Beach Police are also investigating another burglary suspect for crimes both within the City of Long Beach and in other areas. This investigation is ongoing, so LBPD would not release any more information about the specific areas outside of Long Beach where the suspect is under investigation. The text of LBPD’s release on this suspect follows:
On Thursday, February 9, 2012, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Long Beach Police located and arrested a suspect who was on felony probation and had three narcotics related no bail warrants for his arrest.

Officers from the South Patrol Division’s Directed Enforcement Team (DET) learned that the outstanding suspect, identified as 27-year-old Justin Rock of Long Beach, was staying at a motel in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Termino Avenue. They responded to the location, observed Suspect Rock travelling in a vehicle in the area, and made a traffic stop resulting in his arrest for the no bail warrants. It was also determined that Suspect Rock had been staying at a nearby motel. A subsequent search of the vehicle and motel room turned up loss, which included a variety of electronics, passports, and drivers licenses, from several residential, commercial and auto burglaries in Long Beach, and other possible burglaries outside the city.

Detectives believe that Suspect Rock may also be responsible for additional burglaries throughout the city, and the investigation remains ongoing.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2012, Long Beach Police Burglary detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who filed three (3) counts of residential burglary, three (3) counts of possession of stolen items, and one (1) count of possession of narcotics for sales against Suspect Rock.

Suspect Rock was arraigned in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday and is expected to appear in court again later this month.
