Volcano Burger: The Ultimate LAHS Student Hangout Spot

Teenagers are famous for constantly craving fast food, and one restaurant in particular is lucky enough to be located right across from Los Alamitos High School: Volcano Burger.

It’s no surprise that due to the restaurant’s convenient location and greasy menu, high school students have made Volcano Burger a popular lunch-time and after-school hangout spot. The hamburger joint, which includes a drive-through window and offers covered outdoor seating, becomes flooded with teenagers only minutes after school ends, and remains that way for quite a while. But what makes it so appealing?

Their French fries are a good start. Students often visit Volcano Burger for their fries alone, and the snack is typically shared amongst multiple people. The fries are cooked so that they’re the perfect balance between soft and crispy, and can be purchased with a flavorful seasoning, chili-cheese topping, or a side of ranch dressing.

Other LAHS favorites are their pastrami sandwiches, fried zucchini, and of course, their burgers. Each of their menu items are inexpensive, and sides can be purchased as half-orders if you’re looking for a smaller serving.

“When we don’t have football practice sixth period, a few friends and I usually go to Volcano burger for a late lunch,” said Connor Nielsen, a freshman. “It’s cheap, and it sure beats cafeteria food.”

The small restaurant seems to serve a purpose other than serving food, too.

“The drive-through circle at the front of campus can take so long to get into,” said 11th-grader Amy Walters. “So after I share a side of French fries with a couple friends after school, my mom parks in front of Volcano Burger or in its back parking lot, and I’m picked up there. That way I get to spend time with friends on weekdays, and my mom doesn’t have to sit through traffic just to pick me up every afternoon.”

So if you don’t mind sitting near groups of teenagers and under an outdoor ceiling, stop by Volcano Burger for lunch, dinner, or a snack. The food is good and the employees don’t mind if you want to completely personalize your order. Just don’t go right after school lets out.
