Long Beach City Council Rejects Proposed 12 Story Building At 2nd And PCH

Last night the Long Beach City Council denied the proposed 12 story building at 2nd and PCH. According to Seal Beach Director of Development Services Mark H. Persico, AICP, the vote was 5-3 to deny the project and not certify the Final Environmental Impact Report.

“Jerry Olivera was in attendance and spoke on the City’s behalf,” wrote Persico in an email today. “He reiterated the points made in previous letters against the project.”

“The Council directed the Long Beach staff to return within 60 days with a plan to update the Southeast Area Development Improvement Plan (SEDIP),” continued Persico. “The SEDIP is the LCP [local coastal plan] for this portion of Long Beach. We will monitor the SEDIP update process to assure that the Seal Beach issues are addressed. But at this point it is difficult to say how inclusive Long Beach will be in the update process.”

Seal Beach Councilwoman Ellery Deaton forwarded the welcomed news in an email.

“This is indeed good news,” wrote Deaton. “However, we now need to be diligent to 1. see that our voice is heard in the SEDIP process and 2. be ready for what will be proposed next for this parcel. But, for now the news is good.”
