The divorced husband of a Seal Beach hair stylist burst into Salon Meritage in Old Town Seal Beach earlier this afternoon and shot 9 people. Of the 9 victims, 6 died at the scene and 2 died at Long Beach Memorial a few hours later. A ninth victim is hospitalized in critical condition.
Although at the time of this writing, the Seal Beach Police Department has not yet identified the shooter or the victims, OC180NEWS has learned (not yet confirmed by SBPD) that the ex-wife of the shooter was working at the salon. The couple has been divorced for about two years, but the ex-husband started threatening the victim about two weeks ago.
The salon, sources told OC180NEWS, was in the process of getting a restraining order against the shooter because he had threatened to kill the ex-wife and others at the salon. But, there is a point of inconsistency in this information because a temporary restraining order can be issued in one day. Thus, the salon would not have to wait very long for the restraining order.
The former married couple is well known among locals, in part, because of the ex-husband’s unusual, aggressive, and threatening behavior. Since the investigation is just getting started, SBPD is not providing much information. The names of the shooter, who was arrested a short distance from the shooting scene, and the victims have not been released.

Such horribly sad story.
I had trouble viewing this article as I usually do, via my twitter text message link. But, it is working now.
Rest in peace to the victims. Yes, a restraining order can be obtained in one day by going to a courthouse, so something is off here, but having a restraining order wouldn’t have stopped this from happening. When someone is this sick or deluded, it’s difficult for the state to do something until it is too late.
It’s stories like this that keep me coming back to this site, you have more information than cnn or any other news outlet. I was having trouble viewing this earlier also, it was asking me to subscribe. It would be a shame for me to stop coming here, because I won’t pay 60 dollars a year for access to one news website, no matter how good.
First, my heartfelt sorrow for this needless loss of some good, innocent people, and the pain that will never end for their families.
I am amazed to constantly hear on the news, “this never happens here”, “this is such a safe place, I never lock my doors”. People don’t need to build a fortress, or be afraid of everyone who comes near. But on the other hand, we need to lose this naivete and realize we live in a world where this can happen anywhere, to anyone.
And we can’t ignore the warning signs, such as those reported in the news about this cowardly maniac. If you’re dealing with an unhinged individual who has shone he can be violent, has mental problems, AND is in a fight for FAMILY… then extraordinary changes should be considered, at least for the short term. Especially when the “sometimes trigger” of a restraining order has just been pulled. No one is to blame here EXCEPT this madman. AND we need to be AWARE and RESPONSIBLE for our safety.
