Rep. Loretta Sanchez Statement On Jobs Report

OC180NEWS received the following statement from West OC Rep. Loretta Sanchez on today’s jobs report.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today issued the following statement regarding news that the economy added a total of 117,000 jobs in July and the unemployment rate fell slightly to 9.1 percent.

“Though I am pleased to see that employers added 117,000 jobs in July, it is important that we in Congress continue to focus on job creation,” said Sanchez. “Our economy has made slow but steady progress to recover from the worst recession since the Great Depression. Unfortunately, this progress is fragile and reversible. Democrats in Congress are committed to pushing forward our “Make it in America” agenda that will reinvest in American manufacturing, small businesses and most importantly our infrastructure. We still have a long way to go until our economy is in the clear and this summer’s partisan wrangling has done the American people no favors. We must join together to create jobs and help our economy grow. Growth is what will reduce our nation’s deficit.”

Our editorial policy goal at OC180NEWS is to present what our politicians say or write about significant issues without coloring these reports with our own opinions. We believe it is important for informed citizens to know the various positions of their elected representatives. Thus, we let them speak for themselves without spin, in their own words.

Whenever we have statements from different perspectives, we try to provide both points of view by including each statement. This allows visitors to read the different perspectives and determine which ones, if any, they agree with.
We expect readers understand these statements are by definition, bias and one-sided in favor of the writer/speaker. In these articles, we are not attempting to present unbiased, objective journalism, but rather, we are simply trying to let the people know what their representatives have to say. Readers may love it, or hate it, but, nevertheless, the above statement is what our elected representatives have to say. We did not receive any other statements on this subject.

  1. A Real Democrat says:

You voted FOR a bill that focuses on debt reduction and invests NOTHING in the economy. You voted to let corporations keep tax rates the lowest they have been in over 60 years when time has shown that they do NOT invest in creating hobs. You voted FOR a bill that continues to let wall street brokers pay less income tax (lower rates) than any of your constituents. You voted FOR a bill that didn’t raise one red cent in revenue, but cut from those that have the greatest needs. You voted FOR a bill that will not only NOT create a single job, but should lead to the loss of over a million.

There is nothing to be proud about when the number of jobs created didn’t even match the number of new people coming into the workforce.

Where is the bill that creates a WPA/CCC to address the immediate employment problems? A bill that addresses the widening income disparity (the worst since Hoover) and levels it out (ala FDR)? A bill that not only invests in immediate short term employment for all that want to work, but also invests in the next NASA (R&D for the future employment)?

Nothing. You got nothing. You are crowing about a downward trending economy and jobs report that says “it could have been worse” and you’re proud that it wasn’t instead of fighting to make it better’ You are a part of the problem. Your vote FOR a bill that hurts every American that is not in the upper five percentile shows that you haven’t been able to learn from history (FDR’s recession) so you are bound to repeat it.

And for what it’s worth, you don’t speak for “Democrat’s”, because no Democrat who understands history and what happened to FDR could have voted for that crap debt bill last week.
