Action Sports Event Brings Community, Youth Together For Two Days Of Competition And Fun –This Weekend

LONG BEACH, California – Lakewood SK8, an action sports ministry of First Baptist Church of Lakewood, will hold its tenth annual skateboarding, scooter and BMX competition Saturday, June 25 from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Sunday, June 26th from 1:00 – 8:00 PM.

Competitions will also be held in aggressive inline and video games. There is no cost to enter and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each division. Food and merchandise will be available for purchase. Registration is required the day of the event and release waivers must be signed by a legal guardian for all minors.

Each event will include multiple skill-based divisions, including a ten-and-under beginning category for younger competitors. The video game competitions will include Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Forza Motorsport 3, EA Skate 3, Guitar Hero, and Soul Calibur IV.

Specialty merchandise, including autographed items by attending professionals, will be available through special drawings or silent auction. Professional skateboarders Richard Jefferson (Element Skateboards; Krux Trucks) and Brian Sumner (Reliance Skateboards; Furnace Skate Shop) will make special guest appearances along with Adrean Harris, an amateur BMX rider.

There will be professional demonstrations and local sponsors attending include Skate Attic, Twisted Scooters, Frank’s Bicycles, SWEARever, Unite Clothing, and Golf N’ Stuff.

“While our competitions are gaining considerable momentum, our organization is all about giving back to the community. We provide youth with a year-round program where they can develop their skills in an encouraging and caring environment,” said Justin Winford, director of Lakewood SK8. “Additionally, parents value having a safe, positive place where they know their child will not be harassed or hurt by others.”

First Baptist Church of Lakewood is located at 5336 East Arbor Road in Long Beach conveniently located near the 91, 605 and 405 freeways. Begun during the summer of 1999, Lakewood SK8 is dedicated to serving the community by providing a high quality skate park experience where all children and families are valued and cared for. Lakewood SK8 operates from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM every Saturday and 6:00 – 9:00 PM every Friday year-round with additional sessions during the summer. The park is staffed during all hours of operation.
