Last Ballots Processed – Gerri Graham-Mejia Wins Los Alamitos City Council Seat – Probably

With all ballots counted, Gerri Graham-Mejia appears to have beaten Dean Zarkos for the third seat on the Los Alamitos City Council. But, while the Registrar reported all ballots have been counted, he also said the results are not official, and Zarkos could request a recount.

Neal Kelley, the Orange County Registrar said in a statement yesterday “The last of our ballots will be put into tonight’s update – 11 days ahead of the statutory deadline to finish in California. The results are still unofficial until we complete the required state audits, which will be done this weekend. Our final sweeps will take place prior to certification to ensure there are no remaining ballots.”
If these results are in fact the final, Mejia beat out Zarkos, both incumbents, by a margin of only 24 votes.

“We are in the process of pulling every ballot, for every precinct, so that they are ready for review in the event of a recount,” said Kelley. We store these ballots for 22 months following each election.”

The detail table follows:

WARREN KUSUMOTO 1,685 17.9%
* TROY EDGAR 1,624 17.3%
* GERRI L. GRAHAM-MEJIA 1,450 15.4%
