I personally take umbrage at the OC180NEWS statement “the RHA politically rebuffed the RPMT”. Just the opposite happened.
We offered to formalize our relationship with them as voted on in the meeting you attended. After further discussion of how the RHA wished to work with them we both decided to move forward cooperatively but separately. We have an excellent working relationship with the RPMT. There never has been any “political rebuffing.” The OC180 statement creates confusion among supporters of both the RPMT and RHA and we end up having to resolve misunderstandings and hard feelings that have no foundation in fact. Please contact us next time you want to characterize an RHA action. We will give you our reasons and then you can write with full knowledge.

Response from the Editor, OC180NEWS:
While we certainly are happy to hear the RHA and the RPMT have an “excellent working relationship,” it is nevertheless quite surprising how people attending the same meeting can come away with very different impressions of exactly what happened. Your OC180NEWS reporters attended the regular October Rossmoor Homeowners Association meeting and listened very carefully to everything said. The members of the RPMT made a presentation and then left the meeting.
The real serious discussion did not take place until after the RPMT people had left. Next followed a very lengthy discussion of various aspects of entering into a trapping contract, financing the contract, managing the trapping activities, and coyote related communications to government officials, media, and the community. One of the conclusions from this approximately two hour discussion was a determination that the RHA wanted to exert control over the communication activities of the RPMT. Since communication is the primary activity of the RPMT, in our view this amounts to a rebuff.
The members of the RPMT evidently had a similar reaction. A few days after the RHA meeting, the RPMT sent out a message entitled “Notice of Dissolvement of RPMT.” The reason the RPMT identified for this action on their part was the controls the RHA decided to place on the actions and communications of the RPMT.
In the above presentation we have omitted a detailed listing of the many unfavorable comments made about the RPMT after their members left the RHA meeting. We have also omitted the strongly worded response by the RPMT to the actions taken by the RHA. If these additional pieces of information are considered, calling the RHA’s actions a “political rebuff” seems more like an understatement than anything else.
We were there, we heard everything said, we saw the resultant response by the RPMT, we take no sides in this issue, and we stand by our article.
