Bail Increased In Cypress Gun Shot Case

A pre-trial hearing was held Tuesday in the assault case of Brent Wilcox who is accused of shooting a Cypress victim in the head. Wilcox, who has been out on a $25,000 bond since his arrest back in March, had to bring his bail up to $100,000 and turn over his passport to the court. He remains free after posting the additional bail.

Some additional details of the case came to light this week. As originally reported by the Cypress Police Department there was only one victim who was shot in the head. “There was a brandishing and assault with a fire arm on a second victim, but he was not shot,” Vickie Schneider, Deputy District Attorney told OC180NEWS.

The DA’s criminal complaint states in part “BRENT CHRISTOPHER WILCOX inflicted great bodily injury on JAMES M. … which caused JAMES M. to become comatose due to brain injury.”

We asked Deputy District Attorney Schneider about the condition of the victim. “I don’t think that’s his medical status right now, I believe he is communicating,” she said. “I believe he is recovering to some degree.”

The pre-trial hearing held earlier this week did not consider anything beyond the bail amount and a trial sounds a long way off. “We haven’t even gotten to a preliminary hearing yet,” said Schneider. “We intend to proceed {toward trial}. The defense attorney is having some serious medical issues, and we haven’t had a chance to have a really serious discussion.”
