There are items to report on for Los Alamitos based Suite Solutions, Inc., Seal Beach’s Diversified Technical Systems, Inc., Clean Energy Fuels Corp., also of Seal beach, Boeing’s B-1 Long Beach team, Boeing’s Command, Control and Communications (C3) Networks division in Huntington Beach,
and the Los Alamitos Youth Center.

Suite Solutions, Inc.

This 8 person Los Alamitos company was recently named to Inc. Magazine’s 5000 ranking of the nation’s fastest growing private companies. Suite Solutions came in at number 4677, with three year sales growth of 21.9%.

According to a release, “the 2009 Inc. 5000 serves as a unique report card on the U.S. economy. Despite the ngoing recession, aggregate revenue among the companies on the list actually
increased to $214 billion, up $29 billion from last year, with a median three-year growth
rate of 126 percent. The Inc. 5000 are responsible for creating more than 1 million jobs
since their founding, making the list perhaps the best example of the impact private,
fast-growing companies can have on the economy.”

Suite Solutions, 11132 Winners Circle, Ste 207 Los Alamitos, CA 90720, provides consumer bankruptcy attorneys with a variety of due diligence products and services, such as merged Credit Reports. Suite Solutions credit reports merge information from the three national credit bureaus—Experian, TransUnion and Equifax—to provide a comprehensive review of all consumer liabilities. These three-bureau credit reports eliminate the need for consumers to recall their loan and creditor information and help attorneys save time and reduce errors in the bankruptcy process.

Suite Solutions was founded in 1998 by long time Los Alamitos resident Candy Marshall. With over 30 years experience in the credit reporting industry, Marshall saw the profit potential in partnering with the leading bankruptcy software providers to provide import features into their programs. Then, by creating a standardized credit report extract from the credit reporting agencies, Suite Solutions, improves the efficiency and accuracy of the bankruptcy filings. The company pays the credit reporting agencies a fee for each transaction, and likewise, charges the attorneys. Thus, the direct variable cost is only incurred when there is a sale. Diversified Technical Systems, Inc.

This Seal Beach company was recently awarded a $99,625 Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant by the US Air Force Research Lab at Wright Patterson AFB. DTS will design and develop a helmet-mounted smart sensor system for detecting and measuring blast and blunt impact events. The prototype device will attempt to accurately and reliably discriminate eject events from standard air combat maneuvers. The design requirement calls for an extremely small, lightweight and low power device capable of providing a signal to release the helmet-mounted display system when an eject event is detected.

DTS will analyze current test data that characterizes air combat maneuvers and ejection events, build a helmet-mounted prototype device to perform real-time sensor data analysis, and test the device under simulated eject conditions. In 2007 DTS introduced the e-SENSING product line to meet the needs of emerging data logging applications. These highly sophisticated, configurable data recorders and sensors offer users durability and high-speed product values in extremely small and versatile packages. One of these sensors, DTS 6DX, earned the company a second consecutive Best of Sensors Gold Award at the Sensors Expo & Conference 2009 in Chicago.

In addition to the headquarters in Seal Beach, DTs has regional offices in Michigan, Japan, Germany and Australia. DTS plans to expand into the emerging markets of China and India. Steve Pruitt is the company’s president and one of the three co-founders. The company is located at 909 Electric Avenue, Suite 206 Seal Beach, CA 90740.

DTS recently listed a job openning for an Electronic Engineer. Click here to go to the web site.

Clean Energy Fuels Corp.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced the award of $34 million to customers and government agency partners of Seal Beach based Clean Energy Fuels Corp. The money is to offset the incremental cost of more than 800 new clean-burning natural gas-powered taxis, shuttle buses, refuse trucks and heavy-duty trucks. The DOE awards will also open new markets in several states by helping to defer the cost of building 11 new natural gas fueling stations. In addition, as part of additional DOE funding directed toward the development of natural gas fueling stations and purchase of natural gas vehicles, there is further opportunity to add markets and new stations throughout the country. The money is part of funds allotted by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. DOE Secretary Steven Chu commented, “Advancing the number of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles on the road will increase our energy security, decrease our dependence on oil, and reduce pollution across the country.”

Local Boeing Projects

Boeing people in Long Beach, at Edwards Air Force Base, and other company locations, successfully completed the first flight of a B-1 bomber upgraded with the Fully Integrated Data Link (FIDL). This upgrade includes new processors, color displays and communications architecture, enhancing B-1 crews’ situational awareness and communications capability. The U.S. Air Force 419th Test Squadron conducted the flight from Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.

The objective of the FIDL development program is to enhance the B-1 bomber by integrating beyond line-of-sight and line-of-sight data links. The data links reduce crew workload by dynamically re-tasking missions, eliminating the need for steps such as manual entry of weapons data for targeting.

In addition to the cockpit upgrades, the modification also improves and more tightly integrates the aft crew stations by replacing displays and associated hardware that were installed during aircraft production in the early 1980s. Additional upgrades include new open-architecture processors, mass-storage capability and an Ethernet network to integrate the aircraft’s systems.

Flight testing will continue through 2010. The Air Force is expected to award a contract in November 2010 for the production of FIDL installation kits for the service’s entire B-1 fleet.

Meanwhile, in Huntington Beach, Boeing’s Command, Control and Communications (C3) Networks division has been awarded a $14.6 million U.S. Navy contract to produce the information transfer system that controls mission-critical capabilities on guided missile destroyers.

The production of six shipsets of the Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS) AN/USQ-82(V) further strengthens Boeing’s support for the Navy’s modernization efforts on DDG 51-class warships.

The equipment will be retrofitted on the USS Barry (DDG 52), USS Stout (DDG 55), USS Benfold (DDG 65) and three foreign navy vessels. The U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, Dahlgren, Va., awarded the contract, which also includes spares.
